You can see AI use growing. You want it under control before something goes wrong.
You work in IT or technology. The tools arrived inside licences you already hold, and anyone with a licence can now build an AI agent.
| AI in use | Named owner | Risk | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claims letter drafting assistant | Head of Claims | High | Approved |
| HR policy helper | People team lead | Limited | Approved |
| Meeting summariser built by a team | No owner | Not rated | Found, not approved |
| Chat feature inside supplier software | Procurement | Limited | In review |
What you are likely being asked.
Where nobody decided who should be able to build, the default is that everybody can build anything.
Can staff build agents without us?
In most organisations, yes. Modern assistant platforms put agent building into the hands of anybody with a licence, by design.
How many agents do we have?
The count is found through the administration reporting in the platforms you already use, not through a new tool.
Do Copilot agents need governing?
Yes. A Copilot agent can reach anything the person using it can reach. If its builder connected it with their own sign-in, it can reach what the builder can reach, for everyone who uses it.
Five things you should be able to show today.
In our experience, most organisations can produce two of them. If a regulator asked this afternoon, the distance between what you could produce and what should exist is the measure of where you stand.
- A current count of AI agents and assistants in use.
- A named owner for each one that is live.
- A record of who approved each use, and on what basis.
- What each agent can reach, and who it shares with.
- What was required of the person who built it, before they were permitted to build.
What you hold when the work is done.
Nothing new to license and nothing new to run.
One register
Every AI tool and agent recorded, with an owner, a risk rating and a status.
Access by level
Build rights follow a person’s Agent Passport® level, not their licence.
An approval route
A set way to propose and approve a use of AI, with a record at the end.
Works with what you already run.
The control system is designed to sit on your existing identity, policy and workflow tools. It covers generative AI and traditional AI, whatever technology you use.
- Includes Microsoft Copilot (formerly Microsoft 365 Copilot) and the agents your staff build with it
- Ambient Agent® is a member of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program
- Not tied to one vendor: the same controls apply across your AI tools
- Handed over and owned outright by your team
Where to start.
Two steps cost nothing. Every paid step has a published price.
